Nobel Prizes for Fiction

Nobels:  read 43/109

The Nobel Prize for Literature is controversial.

  1. It has been awarded 107 time to 112 authors.
  2. 94 men and 14 women have won the prize.
  3. The prize was divided between 2 writers in 1917 and 1974.
  4. The jury has a difficult task choosing a winner:
  5. It has not always gone to the best writer.
  6. It has been a political rather than a literary choice
  7. Two writers have rejected the Nobel Prize:
  8. Pasternak (pressure from Soviet government) and
  9. J.P. Satre ( out of principle).
  10. It has neglected women writers.
  11. It has neglected  Chinese born writers.
  12. Emile Zola never won it but he should have.
  13. Thomas Mann (1929)  won it  but I have my doubts about this one.
  14. Tolstoy and Chekov, Nabokov
  15. three  two of the greatest writers were snubbed.
  16. …Sweden disliked Russia!
  17. Predicton 2017?  Jon Fosse, Swedish playwright!
