#Eureka “I have found it!”

by N@ncy

  1. I thought I was doomed to the  book blog “burn-out” bin.
  2. The war in Ukraine just upset my thinking and concentration.
  3. But my favourite poet Seamus Heaney came to my rescue!

  1. I am so impressed how the Zelenskiy and his ministers, the
  2. the Ukrainian military and most importantly the Ukrainian people
  3. …have showed me that one must “NEVER give up”!

  1. I woke up to the news that Macron won the French election
  2. …and believe me ALL Europe breathes a sigh of relief while
  3. enjoying a coffee and croissant.

  1. These events have taught no matter who deep you fall
  2. always look up and you can still see the stars.
  3. There are decades when nothing happens
  4. …and there are weeks when decades happen.
  5. I have been in my small way going through those weeks.

  1. So it is time to brush away the cobwebs in my mind
  2. and follow the advice Seamus Heaney.
  3. It’s inspirational, go for what you want to do
  4. …and throw caution to the wind!
  5. “Walk on air against your better judgememt.”

Ah, Heaney. I always reach for him. Good news about Macron, but a warning shot nonetheless. Any tips for getting out of the ‘book blog’ burnout bin?

First advice…make a list of 20 books that you REALLY want to read for the next month…and keep to the list! I usually read about 10 of the the 20 selected books…but the list just keeps pushing me forward. I’ll upload my new list at this week!
Second thing I do…is look round me as to what is going on in the world! I CANNOT concentrate on fiction when the world is figuratively speaking “on fire. I choose books that will help me stay engaged with the news and discover new writers, new thinkers. Extremely impressed with Tim Snyder’s book “The Road to Unfreedom” . My review is on the blog dd. 13 April 2022.

Thanks for this. I will read your review, though I find it hard to read anything about Putin’s ideology at the moment. I’m finding podcasts help me understand things better, especially the Sam Harris ‘Making sense’ series.
I’d ordered a book called ‘Station eleven’ by Emily St John Mandel a while back and it landed in my letter box this morning. I’ve been looking forward to it, so rather than add it to my TBR pile, I’m going to start it today. I like your idea about the list, I think I’ve been reading too many ARC’s and tackling my TBR pile.

Glad that Heaney turned up just when you needed him most! Books save us time and again and again…

Brona, it is so true…books do save us!
During a blogging burn-out it is important to give yourself the room to regroup.
There is no time-line but just one morning you will wake up…make coffee…throw a load of laundry in the machine and say: “I’m back!”
