Conclusion:

  1. As ex-pat living in Europe I often tell myself
  2. USA politics: “Not my circus, not my monkeys”.
  3. But no matter how often I say this
  4. I cannot get “this monkey” off my back.
  5. This is my 10th book about Donald J. Trump in 2020
  6. ….and it will be my last.
  7. I’m done with Trump…done with this monkey.
  8. Bob Woodward has given me the ‘gold standard’ about Trump
  9. Now it is up to the voters to decide the future of the USA.
  10. I agree with Woodward’s assessment:
  11. “Trump is the wrong man for the job.”
  12. #MustRead

Last thoughts:

  1. I always read Trump’s tweets with a grain of salt.
  2. Tweet: dd. 18 September 2020 (…3 days after publication)
  3. Bob Woodward’s book is very boring & totally obsolete
  4. Didn’t even talk about the recent Middle East deal. Just another
  5. tired, washed up, Trump Hater, who can’t stand that I have done so much,
  6. so quickly.”
  7. Trump is in constant attack mode.
  8. PPS: 14 August Trump called Woodward to ask if the ME Deal would be in the book
  9. …but Woodward explained the manuscript was already sent to the publisher.

I’m hoping to finish this up today. I stayed up late last night reading it, but also feeling a little sick over all this…more so than usual. Bob Woodward is such a consummate professional, and when even HE is writing like this — injecting the little asides and concerns — it’s even more upsetting.

Great to read your thoughts on this. I don’t think I realized you were an expat!! I lived in Europe for many years and only came back beginning of this year…what amazing timing, I know..so good to know someone else who’s gone abroad though!

Thanks for you thoughts….I stayed up until 0200 hr to finish M. Schmidt’s Donald J. Trump v The United States. It was excellent! Poor Bob Woodward…he had to hear over and over the standard rally comments from Trump and jabs to his memory “Did you include the list of my accomplishments?” After the terrible news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death….I wrote a blogplost out of pure sadness. Now watching the Republicans gloat on TV not 2 hrs after her death…I’m sickened. So as you can see I’m on the Trump-rollercoaster: exhaustion, sadness and sickened. the Supreme Court nomination will swamp the news, COVID19 wil continue to spread and kill…..life feels bleak to say the least. Yes, living in The Netherlands…and loving it. Feel safe, secure, healthcare is on top 10 list in the world. No complaints…..but I just cannot shake the US political situation. So sad…

I never felt like I could shake the US political situation while abroad either. I guess it always feels connected to you somehow. I’m glad you feel so at home in The Netherlands! It does seem like a good place to be.

I agree, I really felt for Woodward. Trump knew who he was but didn’t afford him any of the respect he deserves. All that rambling about “you’re not going to be fair to me, but that’s ok” – please! Look who you’re talking to! That’s the whole point, that Woodward isn’t biased, he’s just reporting on it, but trump misses it as usual. This stressful time until November just feels endless.

There has been so much coverage of this book that I almost feel as if I’ve read it! Still curious though, but not sure I can read anything else about that vile man… even if it is written by Bob Woodward. Woodward’s public comments and conclusion are just plain scary.

There were parts that didn’t interest me: North Korea and special love letters from Kim jung um to Trump…bah. I agree there is a lot of repetition of pressers and Trump’s standard rally comments. Good parts concern more insight of Jared (chief son-in-law), the anguish that Retired Gen. Mattis goes through basically running the Dept. of Defense/Pentagon all on his own! And of course the excellent interview skills of Bob Woodward….trying desperately to break through the campaign Trump…entertainer in chief Trump….and discover what is in his heart (…if he has one).
